Description
This exhibition features 15 noted Northern California contemporaries who don’t necessarily label themselves as fiber artists. Provocative pattern-based works incorporating graphic design, multimedia, printmaking, sculpture and installation come to SF State’s Art Department, where textiles courses are in high demand at a time when other California colleges have eliminated programs.Featured artists include Julie Chang, Victor De La Rosa, Jennifer Ferre, Dustin Fosnot, Taraneh Hemami, Ernest Jolly, Mung Lar Lam, Katie Lewis, Victoria May, Ali Naschke-Messing, Francesca Pastine, Anthony Ryan, Jeremy Chase Sanders, Lisa Solomon and Jina Valentine.
“Depth of Surface” is the largest of five textiles-based shows this spring at SF State. It coincides with “Reinvention,” a national textile and fiber art conference on campus March 19–24.
Curated by the SF State Fine Arts Gallery and Victor De La Rosa.
Opening reception: Saturday, Feb. 27, 1–3 p.m.
