Description
472 Gallery will be exhibiting work by illustrator Oksana Badrak. Badrak, a graphic illustrator by trade, work is a quiet and transcendental synthesis of sublime fantastic poetry. Elevated by whimsy and music her illustrations move quietly and softly to a floating mystery all their own creation.Born in 1978 in Moscow, Russia, Oksana Badrak moved to California in 1993 with her parents and studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Working primarily in oils her paintings combine elements of the transcendental sublime while creating a quiet sense of play and amusement. Her characters range from the known to the slightly bizarre unknown creatures at play in the work of the recently deceased Maurice Sendak, best known for his Where the Wild Things Are.
Inspired by a variety of personal experiences, Badrak's work trapezes between Pop Culture references and lighthearted organic swirls, somewhere singing in a song along a line of a surreal mundane excitement and a passive poetry of an imagined ethereal tomorrow-land.
Badrak is thrilled to have her work displayed at Transparent House's beautifully renovated brick building in downtown San Francisco. A calm and inviting space, the gallery acts as the public interface to the Media House's workspace upstairs. As the site of art openings, computer software training sessions and conferences, this space hopes to become a fulcrum point of the downtown arts community in San Francisco. Their downtown gallery will be hosting a rotating cast of work from artists and designers at regular intervals over the course of the year.
