Description

Considered a renaissance man in contemporary music with a career stretching over forty years, Liebman is “among the most important saxophonists in contemporary music . . . a leader and artist of integrity and independent direction. (Leonard Feather – Downbeat). He has played with many of the masters; authored books, recorded as a leader in styles ranging from classical to rock to free jazz; founded the Int’l. Ass’n. of Schools of Jazz; is a multiple Grammy nominee; an inductee into the International Association of Jazz Educator's Hall of Fame; the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, as well as the Order of Arts and Letters from the French government, and has to his credit over 100 recordings as a leader/co-leader. This is a tight working group. A necessary component of his artistic life, David Liebman has continued to pursue his goal of employing a steady working group with a distinct body of music.

40 minutes from SF and Silicon Valley, the Douglas Beach House is notorious for its oceanfront location, casual chamber setting, and quality performances. Home to the non-profit Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society, it has been major contributor to the SF Bay Area Jazz & Classical music scene since 1964. National and international musicians mingle with the audience who get two hours of music plus two more to enjoy the scene. Buffet and wine bar available, or bring your own beverages.
