Description
David James (Afrofunk Experience, Beth Custer Ensemble) brings his newest project to the Poppy. With a diverse performing background, in settings from Ambient/Noise (Thessalonians) to Hip-Hop (The Coup, Spearhead) to Afrobeat (Sila), David's music crosses all these stylistic borders (Senegalese-Irish groove, anyone?)Featuring an all-star lineup of local luminaries, GPS (Good People, Son) marries the melodic to the grooving in exciting ways with its rhythm-trombone-clarinet-viola mix and deft improvising.
Beth Custer will begin the evening with a rare solo set of her pieces on piano, clarinets, and voice.
David James - guitar, voice
Beth Custer - clarinets, piano, voice
Alan Williams - trombone
Dina Maccabee - viola
Lisa Mezzacappa - bass
Jan Jackson - drums
