Description
What started as a weird one-man band (picture a guy with an acoustic guitar and a laptop) has become a full-fledged six piece ensemble, including two guitars, a bass, drums, keys and a violin. The six-piece edition of Curious Quail is no less adventurous creatively; if anything, it's a more complex beast to try to pin down. It's almost indie-folk, but with all the folk elements buried in synthesizers. They've got all the makings of a solid arena rock band, but it comes off too neurotic and shy. The biggest difference between Michael Shirley-Donnelly's debut EP and the new full band record is how much fun he seems to be having--a far cry from the somber tone of his early stuff.
