Description

Cumbia Tokeson

The band took shape in 2009 as two resident Bay Area groups began collaborating: Texan cumbia punk heroes Fuga and local cumbia band La Colectiva. Starting in the local underground scene, both bands would play everywhere from protest rallies and house parties to clubs. Jam sessions often arose after their individual gigs; the music created: an improvisational mix of cumbia and son jarocho. Out of such jams came a unified sound, and Cumbia Tokeson was born. The band recently released their first recording, Chuchos Vol. 1 which has been well received and can be increasingly heard on local independent radio stations as awareness of them continues to spread.

Cumbia Tokeson continues to build their fanbase, this past year having played with such artists as Celso Piña (Monterrey, Mexico), Bomba Estereo (Colombia), La Santa Cecilia (L.A.), La Chamba (L.A.), Brwn Bflo, Pistolera (NY), Bang Data (S.F.) and Cafe Tacvba's Ruben Albarrans new project Hoppo! In their short existence Cumbia Tokeson has already been invited to share their sound at such places as Viva! Chicago's Latin Music Festival, Reventonazo (University of Madison), and Chalk the Block (Texas).

Inspector Gadje Brass Band brings a big sound to the beautiful and bumpin’ brass band music of the Balkans. Formed by students of Rom master Rumen "Sali" Shopov, the band draws on talents known to Bay Area audiences from such bands as the Brass Liberation Orchestra, Zoyres Eastern European Wild Ferment, the Lloyd Family Players, Cradle Duende and the Gomorran Social Aid & Pleasure Club. Inspector Gadje is an acoustic dance machine that makes the party move!

DJ Izzy*Wise

San Francisco based izzy*wise aka Isaac Weiser first started performing music in his Dad’s Klezmer band as a teenager. As the multi instrumentalist began learning new instruments and collecting records, so came the influx of different styles and cultures of music. Having played in many bands performing reggae, afrobeat, funk, rock, hip hop, klezmer, drum n bass, and latin styles this versatile performer began producing his own music and djing in 2007. Combining his knowledge of multiple instruments, sound reinforcement, and his love of mixing music from different cultures, we now have the electro world dub mashup that is izzy*wise’s music.

Isaac Weiser has played and collaborated with many different musicians and groups, and has a growing discography including 11 vinyl releases. Some notable groups are: LoCura, Lucky Brown and the Funk Revolution, Afrolicious, Pleasuremaker Band, Makru, Mophono Halftone Society, J Boogie, Nicodemus, DJ Smash

He has also had the pleasure of opening for many heroes and talents including: Culture, Arrested Development, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Ocote Soul Sounds, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and many more!!
