Description
Enjoy dancing, live music, and a special lecture at Friday Nights at the de Young on July 18. Dance coach and choreographer Cynthia Glinka will instruct and entertain visitors from 6 to 6:30 pm in Wilsey Court. The Royal Society Jazz Orchestra will perform from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Featuring Don Neely and vocalist Carla Normand, the 10-piece orchestra is renowned for authentically capturing the exciting sound of big-band swing, hot syncopated jazz, blues, and music of the Cotton Club. The evening also features a special lecture in the Koret Auditorium by Adriana Williams celebrating Flora and Fauna, a recently installed mural by Miguel Covarrubias. The mural is part of a set of murals entitled Pageant of the Pacific that Covarrubias created in 1939 for the Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco. The entire museum, including the special exhibition Chihuly at the de Young, is open until 8:45 pm for Friday Nights, and dinner and drinks are available in the de Young Café.More Info
