Description

Danny Scheible uses his art as a tool to create self. He says, "my art allows me to become reflective and study who I am in the world." While a student at UC Santa Cruz, he discovered his love for art and, for him, its powerful ability to provide insight and create personal consciousness. He says he also uses art as a social lubricant to get individuals excited about themselves and inspired to make art. Tape is one of Scheible's favorite mediums.

Scheible produced this self-portrait using his unique Tapigami process that involves rolled and cut pieces of adhesive tape. The swirling circular tape shapes create a cellular composition both literally and figuratively. Scheible believes that we can be restricted, self-contained entities by those on the outside who interact with our lives, but that inside we are infinite. He strives to transcend the material, to both show how anything can be art and to demonstrate the limitless power of human imagination and creativity.
