Description
Among the exceptional saxophonists to emerge over the last 20 years, no one’s star has shone more brightly than Chris Potter’s. After extensive sideman work with Herbie Hancock, the Mingus Big Band, Dave Douglas, Jim Hall, Dave Holland and others, Potter has evolved into a Grammy-nominated composer and leader with 15 albums to his credit. Potter’s work liberally mixes influences and genres into startling new expressions. Case in point: Underground, his killer funk unit with guitarist Adam Rogers (Michael Brecker, Ravi Coltrane), keyboardist Craig Taborn (James Carter, Wayne Krantz) and drummer Nate Smith (Joshua Redman, Jason Moran), has been pressing the envelope for the last five years. Their latest album, Ultrahang, was recently released to rave reviews and this appearance will showcase an artist who is writing contemporary jazz history, one monstrous groove at a time.More Info
