Description
John Sterback says he began having sex with men in public parks and bathrooms while still a teenager in southern New Jersey. His life story revolves around endless episodes of cruising and anonymous sex and reads like a catalogue of the crudest stereotypes about gay life. The death of John?s longtime partner sparks a return to his Catholic faith and a journey that leads John to become a disciple of the nation?s most famous reparative therapist, Richard Cohen. But the change John experiences on the road to becoming an ex-gay ?success? story is hardly the one advertised by religious leaders and anti-gay organizations.Richard Cohen is the most famous reparative therapist in America and the public face of the ex-gay movement. But behind the media friendly public persona is a closet full of dark secrets and bizarre footnotes which are revealed over the course of the film.
Joanne Highley says her first lesbian experiences took place while still a teenager in Kansas City. Today she runs one of the nation?s largest ex-gay ministries offering "freedom" from homosexuality and located in New York City?s Times Square district. But once again, the public face is not what viewers find as Joanne?s story unfolds behind closed doors.
Peterson Toscano first discovers Joanne Highley and LIFE Ministry while street evangelizing in New York City as a teenager. He eventually flees LIFE Ministry when Joanne invites him into her bedroom for an exorcism.
