Description
Brooks Enterprise presents an original production, "Celestial Celebration", to celebrate Black History Month at Laney College with an opening night performance on February 20, 2009."Celestial Celebration" asks, "What would happen if great African American singers and comedians reunited in the afterlife?". Marian Anderson, Isaac Hayes, Billie Holiday, and many other notable performers gather for a live cabaret show honoring some of the best African American artists of the past century.
According to Director James Brooks, "Music has been a catalyst that has bridged cultures all over the world. We are glad to salute African American artists that have shone a positive light on our culture, and have brought joy to the world."
Performances are February 20 (opening), 21, 27, and 28, 2009 at 8pm and February 22 and March 1 at 3pm at the Laney College Theater (900 Fallon Street, Oakland, CA 94612), across the street from the Lake Merritt BART station.
