4C Council Gears Up for Celebration Event at Award-Winning Center
that Diversity Leadership Built: “40 Years Serving Children and Seniors”

Community Child Care Council (4C Council) of Santa Clara County serves the Greater Silicon Valley communities --- and has been doing so for 40 years. As a non-profit, 501(c) 3 community-based agency, it provides a variety of comprehensive services, serving as the community child care link for families, child care professionals, including child care services at their “Center” as well as senior wellness services for families who live and work in Santa Clara County. The quality of child care, among 4C’s services, is an important concern of 4C’s as it aims to provide information about assistance for families of children with special needs. A Celebration Event, “Harvesting the Dreams with Children and Seniors,” includes: A Special Guest Speaker, Auction, and Dancing highlighting “40 Years Serving Children & Seniors” that will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 6:00pm to 12:00 midnight at 488 No. 6th Street, San José, CA. Do children stand a chance nowadays before they reach school age?

According to a report issued by SJ2020, an initiative that was launched by the County Office of Education, the City of San José, educators, business leaders and community organizations in the City of San José: “About 40,000 students – nearly half of all public students tested – are not proficient in their grade level skills. About 2,300 middle and high school students drop out each year. These students are left with much fewer options and are more likely to be unemployed, rely on public assistance, and engage in criminal behavior.”

Fortunately, there is extra care and support for pre-school Santa Clara County-based children. The Community Child Care Council of Santa Clara County exists as the 11th largest and one of the most successful long-running childcare services agencies in the United States due to its inclusive approach in bringing parents and their families, child care providers, and the community together.

What about the growing senior citizen population in Santa Clara County? Do they also stand a chance of protecting themselves from the risks of “growing old?” Is the aging “baby boomer” generation given opportunities for better health care and lifestyle?

At the award-winning JTS Northside Community Center in San José, one of the facilities that 4C Council operates, the original master plan of a one-stop community center has been enhanced with more evidence-based senior wellness programs, a nutrition program, senior activities, presentations and workshops, a family resource library, training and early literacy programs.

Santa Clara County can proudly piggy-back on the honors that one of its cities, San José, recently received from a national magazine as one of the “Top 10 Best Places to Live, Big Cities' category.”

Also known as 4C’s, the San José-based agency is not only acknowledged as a trailblazer in the improvement of child care, a San José-based early head start program, and early literacy programs. 4C’s has often been recognized for its advocacy in establishing legislation that allows them to serve children successfully, as well as championing the needs and concerns of lower-income families --- in one of the top 10 best places to live in the United States.

Alfredo Villasenor, 4C’s Executive Director, explains: “Today, we still maintain the child care directory, but without the support of government funding. Now, we are the leading Child Care Provider and the designated Resource and Referral Agency for Santa Clara County. We believe that the more prepared the children are in competing and participating in the regular school system, the higher their chances are in making their dreams come true. Here at 4C’s, there is a mechanism for parents and providers/caregivers to work as a team, providing what is best for their children to grow into responsible adults.”

A staff member relates her experience. “While attending a Parents’ Voice meeting, I overheard a single mom say how she was working and supporting her family, thankful for the support she found with 4C’s in providing child care for her family. She told her kids every morning how Mommy goes to work and they go to school to learn, and that she never wanted them to be on welfare.”

Today, the almost-40 year old non-profit organization is getting ready to celebrate 40 years of outstanding work with a Celebration Fundraiser Dinner, Auction and Dance. The special event is poised to be an evening of enjoyment and an effort to raise funds to maintain and enhance its services.
