CASTLE (San Francisco/Mojave Desert)
Heavy metal doomsters CASTLE have announced the release of their new album, ‘Deal Thy Fate’, via Ripple Music on October 19. Building on the stripped-down sound of its predecessor, Deal Thy Fate sees Castle continue to push the envelope of classic heavy metal, crafting epic and memorable songs that hearken back to fuzzier times while keeping the pedal down on their own hard-edged, modern sound. Guitarist Mat Davis’ penchant for riffs that worm their way into your brain and singer/bassist Liz Blackwell’s haunted melodies soar out of the depths across the album's 36 fist-banging minutes.

Written over the last year in the band’s current Mojave Desert location of Joshua Tree, CA, Deal Thy Fate’s 9 tracks are woven with tales of folklore, dark Americana, serial killers and cult leaders, while the album’s striking cover art, inked by Patrick Zoller, reflects the title track’s no compromise, choose-your-own destiny rally cry.

Commenting on the writing and recording of Deal Thy Fate, which was rounded out on drums by previous touring member Chase Manhattan, Blackwell adds, “We were able to spend a couple months in a jam room honing these songs and for the first time, record the entire album live in the studio – it definitely shows in its energy and intensity and sounds more like live CASTLE than anything else we've ever done.”


War Cloud (Oakland)
Erupting in 2014, out of Oakland, California, War Cloud has been on a steady path of shredding Northern Californian ear drums. Founded by Alex Wein (vocals, guitars), who hails from Baltimore MD, he wasted zero time in recruiting area musicians after firmly planting his amps in the Bay Area. Looking to create an aural ash cloud of volcanic rock, Alex solidified this crew with Bay Area natives Joaquin Ridgell (drums) and Tony Campos (guitar), and Taylor Roach (bass).

War Cloud is a young band but far from wide-eyed innocents. Their musical history drenched in molten riffs across the timeline of heavy metal, the name alone originates from a Wicked Lady song of the same title. With roots encompassing Tony’s tenure in San Francisco’s heavy thrash tinged Hell Fire, Taylor’s melding of hard rock rhythm and old-school groove on bass, and Joaquin pounding his drums as if possessed by the ghost of John Bonham himself. War Cloud has created a new flavor of heavy rock music for those enjoying past meals served up by the likes of Pentagram, UFO, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath.

This is modern metal sophistication dipped deep in ‘70’s heavy fuzz rock.

KOOK was founded in September of 2015, and represents combination of volume, substance(s), and love for all things heavy. The members of KOOK were raised in San Jose’s storied rock/metal scene that started in the late 80s, and shared the stage with bands like Sleep, Dear Deceased, and Operator Generator. Guitarist Karl Larson was in the starting lineup of what became High on Fire with Matt Pike, George Rice, and Des Kensel, before parting ways. Besides High on Fire, the band is made up of former members of Sin City/Motorfly, KLANK, Kill Sister Kill, Imperial Spacepod, Kinabra, and The Stumps. Influences run the gamut from classic blues and rock and roll, to modern stoner/doom/sludge, to goth and new wave, and everything in between. The music is rich, complicated, hypnotic, dark, spooky, trippy, sleazy, powerful, groovy, campy, heavy, and loud. It’s all in our genes, but the resulting sound and songs have been difficult to describe.

Winter Wind is a badass proto-Metal band from Salinas/Santa Cruz.
