White Walls is proud to present ILL Romantic: New Works by Casey Gray. ILL Romantic consists of multilayered, interconnected works that draw from a symbolic system of meaning and associations pertaining to the turmoil of the human heart. Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, July 10th, 2010, from 7-11pm.
Through a meticulous practice of hand-cut stenciling, Casey uses spray paint and various urban media techniques involving the dense layering of image, symbol and pattern to produce bold, colorful paintings that are both graphically and conceptually compelling.
His imagery is both autobiographical and universal, with much of it being drawn from his own photography as well as various media sources. The end results are brightly colored spectacles that tap into collective social consciousness while simultaneously being deeply personal.
ILL Romantic explores the dynamics of competing ideologies in a discussion of suburban romantic fantasy as a form of escapism. It stems from meditations on a myriad of concerns relating to vulnerability, attraction, repulsion, exploitation and the duality of good and evil.
Casey will earn a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in May of 2010. His works have been featured in cities across the United States including San Diego, San Francisco and the 2009 Aqua Art Fair in Miami.
The opening reception of Ill Romantic: New Works by Casey Gray at White Walls Gallery begins on Saturday, July 10th, 2010 from 7-11pm. The exhibit will be on display through August 7th, 2010 and is open to the public.
