Description

Take a fresh look at a rich cultural movement with Carla Kaplan, author of Miss Anne: White Women of the Black Renaissance. Miss Anne refers collectively to white women who participated in the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. Considered scandalous by whites and disdained by some blacks, these iconoclastic women—some Jewish—were mostly high-society. Among them were Barnard College founder Annie Nathan Meyer, Texas heiress Josephine Cogdell Schuyler and novelist Fannie Hurst.
