California Conversations: A State of Technology

Description

Discover the artistic innovations of three artists and scientists whose work plays at the intersections of art, technology, science, and Judaism. Composer and electronic musician Amy X Neuburg, robotics engineer Ken Goldberg, and science hacker Ariel Waldman will discuss how their work reinvents Jewish traditions for the twenty-first century. Prior to the conversation they will each present clips of their art. Moderated by Boing Boing co-editor David Pescovitz.

Amy X Neuburg is an American composer, vocalist, and electronic musician. She holds a BM in voice from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a BA in linguistics from Oberlin College.


Ken Goldberg is a Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, with a joint appointment in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and in the School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley.

Ariel Waldman is the founder of Spacehack.org, a directory of ways to participate in space exploration, and the global instigator of Science Hack Day. She is also an interaction designer, a research affiliate at Institute for the Future, and an advisor for the SETI Institute’s radio show, Big Picture Science. Previously, she worked at NASA’s CoLab program. Waldman has also been a sci-fi movie gadget columnist for Engadget and a digital anthropologist at VML. In 2008, she was named one of the top 50 most influential individuals in Silicon Valley.

David Pescovitz is the managing partner and co-editor of Boing Boing and a research director at Institute for the Future.
