The Shooting Gallery Presents: "777"
Solo Exhibit of New Works by C3

Opening Reception: Friday March 13th 2009, from 7pm -10pm

We are excited to introduce artist C3’s (short for Christopher C. Curtis) solo exhibit of new works to 66 6th St, formally known as Gallery Three. His new collection of drawings, paintings, and mixed media in “777” represents a cross roads where the heavenly and the dark worlds collide.

C3’s meticulously rendered graphite drawings capture the ethereal quality of the objects, instruments, people, and places, by emulating photo-realism and surrealism. Using a technique reminiscent of photo obscure, he captures as much information from a photograph as possible. C3 says his 15 pieces might be labeled as a “slasher western” in movie terms if he had to put it in a category.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma C3 is influenced by his subconscious, having the earliest memories of childhood on a farm. Recently while reading an article in The Guardian addressing San Francisco’s struggle with drugs and police enforcement, C3 came across a quote that inspired the 777 show. “We live in the Wild West.” C3 explains that even though we think of the Wild West a thing of the past, in some ways it is still present today. “It’s a natural human thing and we will always be like that. People think we live in a perfect evolutionary world but certain things stay the same.” His ghostly, dark figures denote rather ambiguous themes throughout this collection of numerology, symbolism, and a post-apocalyptic rebirth.

C3 is an up and coming artist in the Bay Area. After graduating from the Academy of Art University, he won three awards in photorealism, figurative and still life drawing and decided to use the money to jump start his art career in San Francisco. He recently showed at Babylon Falling and numerous group shows around the city.

Please come spend Friday the 13th with us at Gallery Three for the opening reception of "777" solo exhibit by C3. The show will be on view beginning March 13th and run till April 3rd 2009. Opening reception is Friday the 13th of March, from 7-10pm, and open to the public. Please call to make an appointment to view her work due to varying business hours.
