Description
FREE BY RSVP ONLY. Email us at [email protected]Santa Cruz-based entertainment company Smoothio Films has produced a trailer for a feature film titled “Buster Jones”, a retro-style Kung Fu action film reminiscent of the popular 1970’s film genre that follows in the tradition of pop culture classics such as “Enter the Dragon” and “Three The Hard Way”. The scripts for several stories revolving around these characters are completed and Smoothio’s producers hope that this work combined with the remarkable new trailer will illustrate the unique melding of genres and styles that they are striving for.
Conceptualized over a decade ago by writer/director Dylan Hobor, the film was shot locally in the Bay Area and Santa Cruz. The film trailer will show as a sneak preview at the Film Actor's Club Red Carpet Event in Sacramento on November 21, 2009 with an official premiere at the new Gallery in the historic Mill Building in downtown Santa Cruz on Saturday, December 5, 2009 and is available by invite only. Smoothio Films also plans to submit the work to festivals on a global scale.
“Buster Jones” details the adventures of an African-American minor league basketball star that is also trained in the martial arts. After his cousin Bootsy is murdered by weapons dealers from Asia, Buster finds himself thrown into a turbulent battle with the organized terrorist ring. These pursuits lead Buster to the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles where he finds himself plunged into the ultimate fight to save the fate of the free world.
“Buster Jones” is produced by Flax Glor, directed by Dylan Hobor, and stars lead actor Robert Parham (Grandmaster Black Belt & five-time World Champion Kickboxer). Rob Rush (Rec–League Records) serves as the music supervisor working with his new side project called “From The Future” to compose the score. The film includes an eclectic cast of local working actors throughout the Bay Area and Santa Cruz. Visual FX & Sound Design were done by Creative Armada out of Santa Cruz, and the Final Sound Mix & Mastering was done at The Invisible Studios in Hollywood.
Smoothio Films has partnered and collaborated with bands such as Good Riddance, Agent 51, and Rec-League and has produced promotional videos for the Santa Cruz Film Festival, NorCal Paranormal Investigators, and several other interesting companies. Their latest video, “ Hot Tubbin'”, won numerous awards including Best Music Video at the Santa Cruz Film Festival. Best Local Video in the Good Times weekly newspaper, Music Video of the Year at Your Music Magazine, and was the #1 featured video on YouTube on Easter Sunday 2008, accumulating almost half a million views in that week alone.
