Brides for all Seasons Exhibit

“Brides for All Seasons”,--a timely exhibit showcasing bridal gowns and accessories from the 1880s-1970 opens at The Lace Museum on June 30 and will run through November 3. Highlights include a special 1912 bridal gown is highlighted in honor of Sunnyvale’s centennial celebration; gowns from diminutive entertainers “The Adams Sisters”; and a book of photos of bridal gowns from the public.

Exquisite hand made and machine made lace will be featured on the gowns, veils, gloves, shoes, handkerchiefs and other accessories.

Another special feature will be a showcase of lace items and photos belonging to the Adams sisters, Lilliputians who were entertainers (singing and dancing) on the Vaudeville circuit in the 1880s. Sara and Lucy were 43 and 46 inches tall. They designed and sewed many of their own clothing and costumes and their great-niece has loaned the museum a few items belonging to the sisters for the exhibit.

Visitors are encouraged to bring or send a photo of their own wedding gown (or of other family members) for inclusion in a book of gowns to be on display throughout the exhibit. Do not bring originals as the photos will not be returned. Be sure to Include the date and place of the wedding.

The Lace Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11am – 4pm. The museum will be closed August 6 – 11 for the International Lace Convention.


The museum gift shop also offers heirloom quality lace products and a full line of lacemaking items. The Lace Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM and is located at 552 South Murphy Avenue in Sunnyvale, CA 94086 with free parking. Admission is free with a charge for groups.

The Lace Museum is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1981. It is the only lace museum in the western part of the United States and showcases one of the most extensive collections of lace and lacemaking tools. The museum houses hundreds of lacemaking tools, lace examples, books and other materials covering the history of lace. The museum provides needlework classes with experienced instructors. The museum is staffed entirely by volunteers and is supported by donations and the Lace Museum Guild.
