Description
Peter Solmssen has worked for LIFE magazine. His portfolio includes photographs of iconic figures Alfred Eisenstadt and Andreas Feininger. While serving for five years as an American diplomat in Brazil, he was able to photograph and film Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Salvador. Capturing the different cultures of each city in such a rich country during the 1960s.
These moments in Brazil show how the beach, industrial improvements, and weather influence this diverse melting pot.
Peter felt this difference of Rio and São Paulo. Photographing one in color and the other in black and white. Both are tremendously stimulating and unique.
Peter concluded his long diplomatic career as Deputy Ambassador-at-Large for Cultural Affairs in the US State Department, guiding major international cultural efforts such as the King Tut and Chinese Bronze Exhibitions. He became the founding President of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and continues as its President Emeritus.
January 19th, 2012 is the opening to our first show of the new year and we did not want to disappoint. The 60s in Brazil is truly a remarkable show. One where you can compare not only architecture, lifestyle, personality, and culture to the neighboring major cities in Brazil but also compare them to our own countries travel through pop culture and time. Starting at 5pm til Late in the evening we will rest our eyes on Peter Solmssen sights through Brazil.
