Description

As house organist for the Stax Records label in the '60s and leader of the MG's, keyboardist, multi-instrumentalist, producer and arranger Booker T. Jones is familiar to countless music fans for his own hit "Green Onions" as well as his support for the likes of Aretha Franklin and Bill Withers.

The Memphis native showcases his charmed career throughout his Booker T. 's Stax Revue: A Journey Through Soul, Blues and R&B program. Boasting a ten-piece band that includes a three-piece horn section and three rotating lead vocalists, it's an exploration of Jones' remarkable journey peppered with anecdotes from the man himself and featuring classics originally performed by the likes of Otis Redding, Carla Thomas and Sam & Dave.

An ever-present influence on today's music, Jones has collaborated with subsequent generations of sonic explorers: Potato Hole (Anti-2009) paired him with neo-Southern rockers Drive-By-Truckers and former Woodside resident Neil Young. Sound the Alarm (Concord 2013) features the likes of neo-soul crooner Anthony Hamilton, blues guitar firebrand Gary Clark, Jr., percussion titan Sheila E., founding Tony! Toni! Tone! member Raphael Saadiq and British singer/songwriter Estelle.
