Description

San Jose author Tobin Gilman will speak about his book, 19th CENTURY SAN JOSE IN A BOTTLE, which provides a historical view of daily life and commerce in San Jose in the 1800s, told through the prism of antique bottles from the area.

You will learn about the downtown druggists, the local breweries, the soda and mineral waters, and much more. The glass bottles that San Jose's nineteenth century businesses used to package their products are spilling over with fascinating historical insights about our city's past that you won't learn anywhere else. Tobin will also bring examples of antique bottles from San Jose, and explain how they were hand blown by skilled craftsmen in glass houses across the country.

For those interested in purchasing a signed copy, Tobin will have copies of the book for sale. In addition, attendees are encouraged to bring any old bottles they may have at home if they are interested in learning more about their age, history and value.

Entry to the event includes a self-guided tour of the Fallon House between 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
