Description
The Sanskrit word “Bodhicitta” has been translated in many ways: awakened heart, awakening mind, enlightened attitude, mind of enlightenment, heart of compassion.Bodhicitta is at once a kind heart, an open mind, and the compassionate desire for perfect enlightenment in order to work for the benefit of others.
This class on Bodhicitta will be based on The Jewel Ornament of Liberation, written by the great Kagyu teacher Gampopa in 12th century Tibet. This text covers the Buddhist path from a Mahayana perspective, and emphasizes the development of compassion and Bodhicitta. It is said that without the simultaneous cultivation of Bodhicitta, all of the higher practices of Buddhism will not result in realization. Thus everyone wishing to study emptiness as taught in the Mahayana and the teachings on clear light taught in the Vajrayana should study Bodhicitta.
Friday night Public Talk:"Understanding Shambhala: A Buddhist Perspective" $20.
Program Sat. & Sun. 9-6pm $100-125.
