Description

Boca do Rio releases its much-anticipated second album with a burst of creativity, soul, and undeniable beats. Born of the mixing of waters of Brazil with the Bay, Boca do Rio has created musicá organicá – music that developed through the rhythm of living and working in the Bay Area and Brazil.

“Boca do Rio (Portuguese for “mouth of the river”) strikes the perfect balance between delicate smoothness and energetic edginess, resulting in vibrant, vast landscapes of sound. Rooted in distinct instruments that seem both timeless and yet also grounded in the here and now, The Dam is Breaking is full of energy, passion, vitality and life. Possessing an urgent environmental message, every song is impeccably written, arranged and performed, resulting in an EP that is superbly crafted and expertly produced."
Brian Farish Radio

This collection of work is innovative yet already universal – these songs have been lived by these hard-working musicians as they have forged their voice from a life lived organically as Brazilians, as Americans, and as Brazilian-Americans and American-Brazilians. The result is an explosion of rich songs and harmonies, anchored by the deepest beat on the planet. Alex Calatayud (Entre Nos), a native of Goiania, Brazil, and Scott Johnson, an East Bay native, join forces to bring a propelling and unique swing – a dinga! Larry De La Cruz and Eduardo Amado both hold the pocket and mine the harmonic depths for musical gems on this journey evolved of bocas and beats. Kevin Welch (of Vivendo de Pão) leads these adventurers through waters swift and deep. Dancing is a go-go.
Boca do Rio will be joined onstage by the Beleza Dancers and DJ Kadence.

Farewell Party for Brothers Calatayud (traditional samba)
After nearly 2 decades in the Bay Area, Marcos Calatayud is returning to Brazil.

DJ Nix Glass (KDVS) opens the night with urban soul.

SambaFunk! with King Theo brings it all together on the dancefloor and then raises it to the roof!
