Description

It is hard to believe that it has been almost two months since the devastating earthquake in Haiti. There is still so much to be done and Americans are taking their best shot at helping out. We are not just talking about Americans, but Californians and more specifically California’s Blues Musicians!

The heart and soul of Blues is coming together on March 27th.

Four Californian cities are coming together and producing four Blues for Haiti Benefits. Simultaneously, blues musicians in San Jose, Modesto, Fresno & Visalia are donating their time and music to reach out to their brothers and sisters in Haiti in this difficult time.
The Central Valley Blues Society is sponsoring this event.

The show held in San Jose is produced by Marc Chenault with 100% of the proceeds given to the American Red Cross Chapter of Silicon Valley.

Gary Smith

For three decades San Jose harmonica player Gary Smith has been an influential figure in the San Francisco Bay Area Blues scene' His band was the first to grace the stage at the inaugural San Francisco Blues Festival way back in 1973.
He has long been regarded as the Godfather of San Jose Blues harmonica players. Smith has kept a very sophisticated but deep in the blues sound. Smith doesn't play live much anymore, usually just at harmonica blow-outs and fund raisers.

The Billy Davis Band

In 1995, Billy Davis put the Powerhouse Blues Band together to share the great music that
Black American blues artists left behind for all to enjoy.
Davis got his first musical exposure through the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Today the Powerhouse Blues Band has become known as The Billy Davis Band.
Billy Davis has opened for many of our finest blues artists in San Jose such as;
Charlie Musslewhite, James Cotton, Rod Piazza, and Roy Rogers.
In his early years Davis, who is on lead vocals and harmonica, opened for: Sly and The Family Stone, Loading Zone, Cold Blood, and Graham Central Station and is a three-decade Bay Area musician. Davis utilizes some of the best musicians the Bay Area has to offer.

The Billy Davis Band will also be backing harmonica legend, Gary Smith and performing a set with his band at the CV Blues For Haiti Benefit.

Coleman Head

Coleman Head started performing as a teenager on lead guitar and vocals in the Fresno area during the hippie days of the late 60's. He toured with Sugar Cane Harris and Harvey Mandel who was a member of Canned Heat before going out on his own. Head settled down in Clovis, California and raised a family while owning and performing for ten years in his own club, The Lucky Lady Saloon.
After the 60's 70’s and 80s Head continued to perform in the San Joaquin Valley but was less active than he was as a young musician.
Head has an impressive list of recording credits and released a critically acclaimed CD titled, “21st Century Blues.”
21st Century Blues continues to sell and Head has been performing more and spreading his 21st Century Blues.

Random Status

Random Status is a young band coming out of the Monterey Bay Area. Co-Fronted by Taylor Kropp and Livia Slingerand the hard driving grooving band, Random Status is made solid with the backbone of bass player Guy Sliter and phenomenal drummer Kevin Bell. “This band is exactly what the industry has been missing in its younger musicians.” says Michele Luccketta (previous owner of Integrity Entertainment.) “I have worked with countless guitar players in my time and Taylor Kropp is one of the best I have ever heard.” Taylor is matched up with equally talented Livia and they shred like the pros of yesteryear while playing groovy and hooky songs of this new millennium.
We haven’t even mentioned the incredible songs, vocals, harmonies and hooks because right now we would like you to come see for yourself!
