Description
Calling all citizen scientists! Join National Geographic, the National Park Service, the Parks Conservancy, and The Presidio Trust for BioBlitz 2014 in the Golden Gate National Parks. BioBlitz is a 24-hour event in which scientist-led inventory teams work together to find, identify, and document as many species of plants, animals, microbes, fungi, and other organisms as possible in an area. The eighth in series of BioBlitzes being held in National Parks across the U.S. in the lead up to the centennial celebration of the National Park Service in 2016, BioBlitz 2014 will help to improve our understanding of the unique biodiversity that exists in our local parks and how to better protect these extraordinary places.A free Biodiversity Festival at East Beach in the Presidio will feature hands-on science and nature exhibits from more than 50 local conservation organizations, photography workshops, food, art, entertainment, and more. All BioBlitz activities are free and open to the public. Participants must register to be part of an inventory team, public registration opens in late February.
