Description

The Caretakers is a series of images of an abandoned train station located at 16th and Wood streets in Oakland, where Berkeley-based photographer Bill Mattick discovered two homeless men who had taken on the unofficial role of caretakers for the decaying station.

Mattick's work has been seen in solo and group exhibits around the country. He was one of the five artists featured in the documentary film, Working Title (2006). His work has been reviewed in Artforum and After Image magazines. In both 1995 and 2003, Mattick was chosen one of the Top 50 Photographers for the Maine Photographic Workshop's Golden Light Awards and his work has appeared in numerous publications. He teaches photography in the Creative Arts Department at DeAnza College.
