Description
Corden|Potts Gallery is pleased to announce our upcoming exhibit, Odin's Cove, a new series by Novato-based photographer Beth Moon. The exhibit will run from June 7 through July 28. A reception for the artist, which is open to the public, will take place on Thursday, June 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.Corden|Potts Gallery is located at 49 Geary Street, Suite 410, in San Francisco. The gallery is open 11 am to 5:30 pm Tuesdays through Saturdays, and until 7:30 pm on the first Thursday of each month.
"Odin's Cove is about a sense of place," Moon says. "It is a celebration of the beauty of nature in a visually stimulating landscape where untamed bramble and ivy suggest ancient origins. Where a regenerative view of the earth can be found in the lush cliffs that gently slope to the sea, where music can be heard in the beating of a raven's wing."
Moon's project, made up of large-scale platinum prints, evolved from a series of trips to the California coastline where "I developed what I can only call a friendship with a pair of ravens," she explains. Over a three-year period she made many trips to this unique area and as her relationship with the ravens grew, she says, they "taught me many things about their lives and personalities. Part pirate and part prophet, makers of magic and mischief, their throaty calls can be heard echoing through these hills. This series portrays their trust in me, their loyalty to each other, the territory they rule, and their life in the wild."
An American photographer, Beth Moon's work employs a platinum printing method she learned while living in England. Moon’s work has been the object of numerous solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries worldwide, including solo shows at PH Neutro Fotographia Fine Art, Verona, Italy; Wave Gallery, Brecia, Italy; and Verve Gallery of Photography, Santa Fe. Moon's groups shows have included Les Roncontres d'Arles Photographie, Arles, France; Farmani Gallery, Los Angeles; and the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art. Her work has received critical acclaim in major fine art publications internationally included LensWork, Black and White Photography, UK; Zoom International, Italy and Black and White Magazine, US.
