Description

Being Human is a 50-minute dance performance with 5 pieces of dance and one danced spoken word piece, exploring the range of the human experience. The choreography is grounded in Bharatanatyam, one of the seven classical Indian dance forms, but informed by flamenco gitano, West African, the whirling of Sufi dervishes, and the movement of birds. The more traditional pieces give way to pieces that bend the rules, and contrast with others that break the rules, much like the choices each of us makes in life.

Malavika Tara Mohanan is predominantly a dancer and theatre-maker. She has been traveling across the Americas and Asia for some years. She is moving to Patagonia, Argentina, where she will continue to find inspiration for community performance work, co-creating a world of truth, justice, health, and wholeness. She shares with Red Poppy the desire for balance for a method of creation that is open and inclusive, and simultaneously conducive to the highest quality of art and life.
