Description

Join seasoned artists and curators in a discussion about how the exhibiting artists in The San Francisco Foundation & SOMArts’ Murphy & Cadogan Contemporary Art Awards Exhibition reflect, extend and advance the rich history of art in the Bay Area. Moderated by The San Francisco Foundation’s Arts and Culture Program Associate Jaime Cortez, the panelists include Assistant Curator of the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive Dena Bird, juror Mildred Howard, and gallerist Steven Wolf.

The Annual Murphy and Cadogan Contemporary Art Awards Exhibition, September 4–October 2, 2012, showcases the work of promising visual artists from regional Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) programs working across disciplines and identifies young artists whose work connects directly to the pulse of emerging trends. Other free public events include an opening reception & awards ceremony on Friday, September 7, 6:30–9pm, and Makers, Mimosas & Matinees, an afternoon of creative workshops & film screenings, Saturday, September 22, 12–3pm.
