Bax & Chung Duo

Husband and wife team Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung, called one of the most “appealing and impressive piano duos of our time,” will be the featured artists in the January concert of Steinway Society – The Bay Area’s 25th Anniversary Season. The concert will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. at Hammer Theatre Center in San Jose. A pre-concert talk starts at 6:45 p.m. The artists will be available to meet the audience following the concert.

Established artists in their own rights, Bax and Chung first met at Japan’s Hamamatsu Competition, where Bax says, “I think we fell in love with each other’s playing!” Since then, they have performed in major festivals and concert halls around the world, as well as recorded three CDs featuring works of Saint-Saens, Stravinsky, and Ligeti for piano four hands and two pianos. Besides their individual solo careers and their newest duo collaboration as parents of four-year-old Mila, they are also co-artistic directors of the Joaquin Achúcarro Foundation in Dallas, created to cultivate the legacy of the Basque pianist and to support young pianists’ careers.
