Director/cinematographer Ron Fricke, who gained international acclaim for his camera work on Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi and his direction of the IMAX film Chronos, spent 5 years and traveled to 24 countries to make this celebration of the interconnectedness of nature and humanity. He journeyed to such places as Mt. Everest, Angkor Wat, Tiananmen Square, the Brazilian rain forest, the Pyramids of Giza, the burning oil fields of Kuwait, and the Galapagos Islands — a cinematographic quest to explore the meaning of the Sufi word `baraka,' which roughly translates as `the essence of life from which the evolutionary process unfolds.'
