Banned Books Readers Theater

Description

Censorship in America is alive and well. Join local writers, actors, and elected leaders who will celebrate the 1st Amendment by reading from books that have been banned or challenged in America. Presented by Willing Suspension Armchair Theater in collaboration with Santa Cruz Reads, a partnership of Santa Cruz Public Libraries, Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries, and Santa Cruz Writes that believes great literature encourages conversations and stimulates thinking. This event is free.

• Farnaz Fatemi, Lecturer in Writing at UCSC, poet

• Susan Freeman, Poet and writer, arts educator and lecturer in Education at Stanford, radio host

• Joyce Michaelson, Psychotherapist, actor

• Ralph Peduto, Actor, acting teacher, founder of Acting on Camera

• Mauricio Samano, Actor, writer

• Adrian Torres, Director-Teatro Campesino, actor, writer

• Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, Writer of Farewell to Manzanar and other books

• Avondina Wills, Film and stage actor, musician

• Spike Wong:, Teacher, actor, writer, triathlete

Julie Minnis will lead a discussion and Q & A following the reading.
