Description
we will be celebrating our fifth Mexica New Year on the grounds and in front of our Mission Campus, Valencia St. between 22nd and 23rd Streets, on Sunday, March 11th, from 2-7 PM (gather starting at noon). The turning of the years will be happening at dusk, approx. 6 PM, this year of 13 Tekpatl, the end of many calendrical cycles!Aztek danzantes from many different kalpullis (groups) will be filling the street out front between 5:30 and 6:30 with their beautiful traditional dances. The turning of this year is March 11th, instead of the usual (3 years out of 4) March 12th, because the Gregorian (common use western) calendar puts in a February 29th every 4 years...leap year, year of Tekpatl, Flint.

Kualli Tonalli Zenyaliztl, Good Day Family
The time is upon us. Our beautiful brown Mother Earth is beginning her cycle of life with the coming of the spring. Take the opportunity to acknowledge the beauty and give thanks to the creation that is around us. Bless the Water, the Sun, the Earth, and the Wind. OmeTeotl, Mayute, The Great Spirit. We will be moving into the year of the Flint 13 Tekpatl on March 11 at sunset, this is according to the Tonalmachiotl "Aztek calendar", the most precise calendar created, scientists say. All years begin with the Crocodile "Zipaktli", the first symbol of the 20.
Before the year 13 Tekpatl begins, the five days before are always observed. These days are known as Nemontemi "What has been lived to completion or fulfillment". Use these 5 days for reflection, balance, and adjustment. Organize your time/space to be better prepared for the new year. The Nemontemis belong to their own count that takes 52 years to complete. The five days alternate around the 20 symbols, this years Nemontemi's will be on Ozomatli "Monkey", Malinalli "Herb", Akatl "Reed", Ozelotl "Jaguar", Kuautli "Eagle". The Energies and Qualities of the days will help to reflect, balance, and adjust to go into the year of the Flint 13 Tekpatl.
Where ever you find yourself on these five days and the new year day, that's where you will be. Know that groups will be gathering to acknowledge the forces of nature and the cosmos, giving thanks. If you choose to join with them, with us or with your family, gather around the fire and the heart of your circle. Add your prayers, blessings, and offerings to the other gatherings that are occurring in many places. Positive thinking and vibrations will carry us through the year Flint 13 Tekpatl.
Please note, for the last five years, a group led by Maestro Mazatzin has been gathering and participating in San Francisco, CA at the City College of San Francisco Mission District Campus, where a 27' diameter Tonalmachiotl is in front of the campus to celebrate the New Year. Please join this gathering if you are in the San Francisco area or contact me for further information or a location in the Los Angeles area.
