Description
NoViolet Bulawayo will be reading and discussing, among other works, a piece entitled “In America” which is inspired by the Zimbabwean, and by extension, African, and larger diaspora experience in the US. Themes will include immigration, displacement, exile, identity, assimilation, and alienation, and the American Dream. We are essentially living in an increastingly globalized age and space, where the “homeland” at least for a significant number of people, is no longer a practical site because of compelling pull/push factors. Ms. Bulawayo is interested in what it means to give it up and forge an existence outside of it, i.e. “In America.” NoViolet Bulawayo will be in conversation with Sarah Ladipo Manyika.
