Description
Author Colin Dickey comes to the Capitola Book Cafe for an evening book discussion and audience Q&A. He will be discussing his book, Afterlives of the Saints: Stories from the Ends of Faith, which presents a history of faith as told through some of the strangest stories of the saints. There are tales of saints who murder, some who gouge their eyes out while holding them for inspection, saints who minister to the petty and the bizarre and the maligned. While their behavior would label them with all manner of clinical diagnoses, such as masochism, anorexia, schizophrenia, their stories can actually enlarge our concept of faith when visited in a contemporary context.
