Stanford Humanities Center Event-"China and the Making of Modern India: A Story of Fantasy, Abuse, and Recovered Memory"
The opium trade had momentous consequences for Chinese history in the 18th and 19th centuries. Amitav Ghosh will speak about the lesser-known impact that this trade had on arts, crafts, tastes and styles in India, the world's leading opium-producing country under the British Raj.
