ArtPadSF celebrates Bay Area artists and BRAF's projects and programs

About the Event

April 12, 2012 (San Francisco, CA.) – ArtPadSF, a new and provocative 21st century boutique art fair, invites San Francisco’s world-renowned museums, galleries, arts institutions, and artists to transform the Phoenix Hotel into an alternative venue for art. The hotel is reinvented as a vibrant and visionary community of celebrated local and international artists.

The art fair culminates in a spectacular evening of performance art, fashion, dance, music and immersive art experiences on Friday, May 18, 2012. This unique event celebrates the wealth of local talent in the Bay Area, and raises funds to benefit the Black Rock Arts Foundation’s (BRAF) public art and grant programs.

In addition to celebrating this exciting new art fair, this event honors the vital spirit and extraordinary artists that enrich the Bay Area. Guests will enjoy an exciting sample of some of the many artists and performing troupes that make the Bay Area a dynamic and vital center for art and culture.

“People are still raving about last year. The night was a definite high point of Art Week and THE place to be,” said culture impresario, $teven Ra$pa, who is on the selection committee for this year’s Friday night celebration. “I can’t wait! We moved this feature night to Friday; so we can go later, include more performing artists, and have more time to cross-pollinate the various artistic worlds that will be converging on Friday night. This year is going to be chock-full and off the charts with new work by performers, musicians and DJs selected in recognition of their consistently amazing work in the creative scene. Oh, and there will be surprises. I don’t know about you, but I LOVE surprises!”

About ArtPadSF

Recognizing the need for an independent art fair to further engage and create new audiences for Bay Area arts, Chip Conley, Founder of Joie De Vivre Hotels, along with ArtPadSF director, Maria Jenson, debuted ArtPadSF at the legendary Phoenix hotel May 19th, 2011.

Conley and Jensen have created an art fair that showcases the fresh and independent voices of the Bay Area contemporary arts world. Conley and Jensen have created an art fair that showcases the fresh and independent voices of the Bay Area contemporary arts world. "Whether it’s going to Open Studios around the Bay Area or experiencing Art Basel in Miami Beach, I’ve enjoyed the various venues where art is shared and appreciated. And I’m proud that ArtPadSF will give us the opportunity to create a ‘crossroads for the creative’ right in our own backyard.”

ArtPadSF occurs concurrently with other mainstream arts fairs but, in contrast, focuses on promoting emerging artists, and on establishing San Francisco as a prominent center of contemporary art. This festival celebrates the distinct character of the bay area's creative spirit. ArtPadSF offers art enthusiasts and seasoned collectors alike the opportunity to discover current trends and artistic practices presented by local, national and international art galleries and artists.

Featuring approximately 30 select galleries from across the nation, ArtPadSF will offer art enthusiasts and seasoned collectors alike the opportunity to discover new trends and artistic practices in a cool mid-century hotel setting.
