Description
Our exciting new course will feature artists of the 20th century and their subject matter. Avant-garde ideas came to America with the famous Armory Show of 1913 that began an explosion of new styles in American art. Georgia O’Keefe celebrated New York and New Mexico and Edward Hopper painted quiet images of American life. A school known as the Precisionists recorded the industrial face of America. And Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, and John Steuart Curry captured the farming heartland of the country. Stuart Davis was an early abstractionist in the 20’s and 30’s. Reginald Marsh recorded life during the 1930’s Great Depression and the government promoted and supported the arts through the WPA.Presented by Frances Rushing, M.A.
