INFORMATIVE AND EDUCATIONAL EXHIBIT: A COLLECTION OF RARE ANTIQUE JAPANESE SWORDS AND ACCESSORIES AT ELSEWHERE GALLERY

Two Days during month-long exhibit of the Wabi-Sabi, Elsewhere Gallery in downtown Fairfax transforms into a museum: A museum quality collection of an exhibit of Antique Japanese Sword and Accessories will be displayed by San Francisco Nipponto Society (SFNS) https://sites.google.com/site/sfswordsociety. Exhibit is open Saturday July 27th and Sunday 28th from 12 noon to 6pm.

Inspired by Feinberg Collection Exhibit seen in Tokyo, the gallery owner Lake Hanyu wishes to share the philosophy “consult the past to learn about the future” with the community. The president of SFNS, a restoration artist and a Kenjyutsu master, will be performing “Tameshigiri “ (test cutting demonstration) every 1 hour.

Exhibit includes Q and A on Japanese swords: he has never been asked a question which he did not have correct answer on the subject. Take a quiz to test your knowledge on the link https://sites.google.com/site/sfswordsociety/did-you-know Display includes historical katana (samurai sword), tanto (dagger), yari (spear), naginata (similar to halberd) and first gun that reached Japan in 1543. This is one of rare example of large matchlock gun that weighs over 40 lbs. Information will include an art of sword making and restoration, history of Japan, Kenjyutsu martial art, and appraisal even buy-sell tips.

$10 per adult and $5 per child under 16. Free admission for children with Parents. The admission includes refreshments and appraisal. Written appraisals are available for additional $15.
