Description

Angels in America is the first major work of playwright Tony Kushner, and its astounding success has turned the man and his writing into cultural icons of the late-twentieth century. Written at the end of the Reagan era, Angels in America tells the stories of characters coming to terms with the AIDS epidemic and the profound ways in which our societal pillars - religion, politics, science, family - were changed by the advent of the disease. Angels in America has received numerous awards and critical accolades, including the Pulitzer Prize for drama and the Tony Award for best play.

Earlier in 2010, Bus Barn Stage Company in Los Altos received funding from the Los Altos Community Foundation and Silicon Valley Foundation Donors Circle to create a new youth mentoring program called First Stages. The goal of the program is to mentor young adults between the ages of 16-22 and create a one-on-one educational opportunity for aspiring stage directors, artistic directors and/or producers. Youth between the ages of 16-22 were invited to submit ideas for a project to be produced in the Bus Barn Theater. Revati Dhomse was selected to work on her proposed project, Angels in America. Ms. Dhomse is working with Bus Barn's Artistic Director, Barbara J.Cannon, to bring this project to the Bus Barn stage. The production is staffed with a combination of Bus Barn artists as well as young emerging artists from the local community of high schools and colleges.
