Description
El Rio, club of San Francisco’s favorite music, is proud to host singer-songwriter, Anastasia, to celebrate the release of her gorgeous album Pacific. Anastasia, a fresh voice in the last months on the Mission music scene, has just finished recording her debut album of original songs, Pacific, at Pepper Tree Studio in Carmel Valley with her band of amazing musicians she calls her SunKeepers. The folk trio, The Range of Light Wilderness band will open the set. Doors will open at 9:15. Tickets are $8.00. The club is located at 3158 Mission Street, San Francisco, one block south of Cesar Chavez. (A 21 and over event)Anastasia Van Wingerden conjures a musical blend of world rhythms, eclectic pulses, varied Spanish lyrics, and irresistible feel-good folk melodies. The Mission district’s wise and soulful Latin musician, Jorge Molina says, “her narrative is warm and personal, her tone is rich, and her melodies colorful.” Anastasia’s backing band, The SunKeepers, is led by native New Zealand drummer/producer Shaun Elley, and a select cast of musically powered Bay Area band mates. Complete with dynamic horns, percussion, and tasteful guitar licks, the group guarantees to make the earth move and crowds dance. Warm Latin vibes mixed with tender ballads and an unusually happy go lucky spirit.
Anastasia, also known as Stasia, is a native of Carpinteria, California, raised on music, Gerbera daisies and the lure of the Pacific always down the road. Surfing, yoga, running, painting, cooking, and farming are part of her vibrant approach to life and show up in her music as spirit, lyric and invitation. She studied self-reliance and resourcefulness from Waldorf to USF. At USF she focused on environmental studies and Spanish, drew with Paul Madonna, but never stopped making music daily, writing, playing, singing, learning everything from Bach to Jobim. She has worked with the Chus Alonso’s percussion group and San Francisco’s Community Music Center. Stasia lived in Chile long enough to dream in Spanish, and her entirely bilingual family works, plays and travels with enthusiasms that show up in Stasia’s music. One of the highlight songs is a love tribute to her parents. Her music is her own, with precedents in folk, influences from great balladeers to hot international exploratory beats. Adam Zerbe, founder of Carmel Valley’s 4th Street Records praises Pacific. “Anastasia and her debut album are an intoxicating breathe of fresh California music! She is an artist born to sing and positively empower those around her."
