Description
Over the last 10 years, acoustic guitar jedi Leo Kottke spent a lot of time collaborating with Phish bassist Mike Gordon, which probably surprised a lot of people. But it shouldn't; Kottke plays just as many notes as Phish, it's just that his sound like they're supposed to be where he puts them. Probably the most celebrated fingerpicker of his generation (and the guy's headed for 70, so we're talking a long run at the top), it's not too early to declare this guy a national treasure. A book could be written just on his experiments with tunings alone, and it probably has been. Though he's kicked around in the folk section for years, his instrumentals are the stuff the "Americana" label was made to describe. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.com
