Join film producers Ninive Calegari and Dave Eggers, and film star Jonathan Dearman for a screening of the feature-length documentary American Teacher, a film that chronicles the stories of four teachers who live and work in disparate urban and rural areas of the country. By following these teachers as they reach different milestones in their careers, the film tells the deeper story of the teaching profession in America today. The film shows us the experience of these four young teachers as they recognize the importance of what they do, and how much they love what they do, but ask: can I afford to continue to teach?Hosted by Sausalito's award-winning charter school, Willow Creek Academy, this event will help raise awareness for the Spring launch of a pilot program modeled on the highly successful 826 Valencia Project, founded by American Teacher producers Dave Eggers and Ninive Calegari. The $10 suggested donation for admission goes toward starting Willow Creek's after-school tutoring program.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion with Ninive Calegari, Dave Eggers, and Jonathan Dearman.
