Description

This lecture will examine visual autobiography and consider the ways comic narrative addresses issues of race and identity.

We are today frequently faced with—and even confused by—questions of identity. Individuals and groups seek to reaffirm or refine their identity within the context of a dynamic and pluralistic society. Sometimes this effort is dismissed as "identity politics." Is the intense interest in identity just a symptom of narcissistic contemporary life, or does this preoccupation have much deeper roots? In this series of four public lectures, UC Berkeley faculty and Extension instructors explore dimensions of identity through a variety of media and cultural contexts. The lectures will also provide a look at Extension's interdisciplinary course offerings. Space is limited. Please call (510) 642-4111 and refer to EDP 018408 to reserve your space.
