Not just any trumpeter can boast of having performed with Steve Coleman, Billy Higgins, Joshua Redman and Joe Henderson, let alone prior to their eighteenth birthday. But Ambrose Akinmusire isnt just any trumpet player. Winner of the 2007 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, Akinmusire draws inspiration from everyone from Bjork to Chopin. His insistence on innovation has since earned him stage time with Jimmy Heath, Jason Moran, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock and Terri Lynne Carrington. He recently stepped into the limelight as a bandleader (Prelude: to Cora, Fresh Sound, 2008), a powerful testament that the future of jazz is bright indeed. Featuring Walter Smith III tenor saxophone, Gerald Clayton piano, Harish Raghavon bass, Justin Brown drums.
