Punkers who heard about this band over their last two years on the Warped Tour must have been damned confused when they searched the web for “Allura” and discovered a pretty irritating pop band with exactly the same name. Accept no substitutes, especially one whose lead singer aspires to play a “…mild-ballad rock kinda sound (like Fiona Apple.” By contrast, SoCal’s AllurA (the big “A” at the end apparently makes all the difference) play a pounding metal and punk attack with some masterfully technical guitar work from guitarists A.J. Bartholomew and Taylor Killam. After some line-up shuffling, and a long wait for the new CD (filled in by the release of the band’s early demo material), AllurA are screaming their way through a tour of the Cali coast that starts right here. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.com
