Description
This is a whole new Alice.Recently relocated to Oakland, Alice follows a white rabbit art car, which sends her on a journey careening down the tunnels by Lake Merritt and deep into her own mind.
Her sudden fall takes the rebellious teenager to an alternate-Oakland universe, where she encounters a mélange of characters. Alice stumbles into Oaksterdam University and upon an Occupy Oakland rally, meets a hookah-smoking hipster, a wannabe rap star named The Duchess, and the stuck-in-the-’60s Mad Hatter—whose tea party is crashed by some card-carrying Republican Tea Party members. Her worlds collide when she innocently enters gang territory, where Blacks and Reds in a deck of cards war over whose “color” the turf truly belongs to. The ensuing trial of the century, presided over by the domineering queen, raises questions of criminal justice, personal responsibility, and community empowerment, as Alice wakes up to the realities and unrealities of her world.
Fast-paced, funny, yet socially relevant, this Alice is a wild and witty adventure through the wonders of Oaksterland.
