Description

The name "Alan's Breakfast" is an allusion to early Pink Floyd song "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast." Though Alan's Breakfast (the band) is largely instrumental, there's hardly a difference conceptually between their sound and those early outer space Pink Floyd tunes-though Alan's Breakfast has a dash of '70s acid jazz and psychedelic soul. Because they lack a lead vocalist, the band's guitarist does a lot of the heavy lifting, sometimes going off on bizarre solo shredding tangents, grounded only by the steady drive of the drums and bass. Their new three song EP, Cantaloupe Cartel, is a frenetic mix of math rock, funk jams and next-level post-rock. (KF)
