In addition to writing books for kids, Alan has been an inner-city high school English teacher and professor in the Graduate School of Education at Loyola Marymount University, and is also a nationally renowned speaker specializing in reaching out to reluctant readers. Throughout his impressive career, he was won such awards as California's Teacher of the Year, Educator of the Year by Loyola Marymount University, Teacher of the Year honor from California Literacy, and more.
